For the past three years, Kate Ryley was named Collegiate Alpine Skier of the Year in Ski Racing Magazine. She is now a professional alpine ski racer from Toronto, Canada who ties the record for the most wins in a collegiate season. Kate recently graduated with Cum Laude honors from the University of Vermont, where she received a full athletic scholarship. Prior to college, she competed on the Canadian National Ski Team. During her four years as a top competitor on the NCAA Division 1 circuit, Kate won an NCAA Individual Slalom Title as well as being a four-time academic and eight-time athletic All-American.
After recovering from a torn VMO (quad), Kate will compete in the international NorAm circuit this year, which begins in December. She is determined to place in the top three in every NorAm race this season and win a NorAm title. Kate has goals of attaining a World Cup start position for 2015 and competing in the 2018 Olympics.
Kate loves NuGo Dark Mint Chocolate Chip and Mocha Chocolate and eats them after her workouts and training. She explained what she likes best about NuGo bars is that they taste good. “There are plenty of bars out there that are focused on particular qualities but get distracted from the importance of taste. NuGo bars also have few ingredients, and the ingredients are ones you understand! Ever seen a nutrition label that looks like the opening paragraph of a novel, and you can’t understand half the words? That can’t be good.”
Kate recently went on a fly fishing trip to Iceland with her family, which she described as “the most unique experience of my life.” In addition to fishing, she enjoys golf, which she said is a “great sport to practice my mental game - like mental cross training for my sport.” She appreciates a good cappuccino and a good book and looks forward to ‘wine and cheese’ nights with her friends.
By January 1, 2015, Kate’s new lifestyle website will be live. Kateryley.com will focus on nutrition, fitness, and travel. Follow @KateRyley on Instagram and Twitter.
