Kimber Mattox runs professionally for Team Run Eugene in Eugene, Oregon, competing in the steeplechase on the track, trail races, and obstacle course races at the national and world level. She also helps coach track and cross country at the University of Oregon and teaches classes in the Human Physiology Department. In 2014, Kimber won the Warrior Dash World Championship and the Xterra Trail Run World Championship. She hopes to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Trials in the steeplechase.
In high school, she was primarily a soccer and basketball player and continued playing soccer through the first few years of college. After being introduced to the steeplechase in college, she found that she loved the challenge of running it. In 2014, she tried obstacle and trail races for the first time, and loved them, especially the supportive and welcoming community. “Although they’re really tough, I love the sense of accomplishment you get each time you complete an obstacle or are at the top of a big hill you climb,” said Kimber.
She loves so many NuGo protein bars for different purposes that it is too hard for her to pick a favorite flavor. Kimber eats NuGo Organic, Dark, or Family bars before workouts, NuGo Stronger after strength workouts, and NuGo Slim for on-the-go protein. “When balancing a busy lifestyle of training, coaching, and teaching, NuGo bars allow me to fuel myself on-the-go, but also be confident that I’m putting good, healthy nutrients into my body,” said Kimber.
In her free time, she likes to support community programs that help get kids and adults moving, like the Healthy Moves program. She also enjoys experimenting in the kitchen to make healthy recipes. Kimber will be competing in the Atlas Race in Southern California on February 28, 2015 and the USATF 15k Road Race Championships at Gateriver Run in Jacksonville, Florida on March 14th.
