Karen Chen, a US Figure Skater has been skating since age 6. Now at age 17, her ultimate goal is to make the Olympic Team at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, Korea. She became a figure skater because she fell in love with the sport as well as with all the inspirational Olympic performances that she remembers watching on TV. “I had always pictured competing as being something fun and exciting, and it really is!” Chen said. She admits she gets nervous before competing but once she gets herself past that, she realizes how much she loves competing.
In 2015, Karen won the bronze medal in her senior national debut at the 2015 U.S. Championship and would have been on the World Championships team, but she was too young for the event. She most recently placed third at the U.S. International Classic last month. “I may have come a long way in my career, but I still have a long way to go,” Chen says with her eyes focused on the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Karen is obsessed with our newest flavor of NuGo Slim, Toasted Coconut. “I like NuGo bars not only because they taste amazing, but also because the bars are high in protein and fiber, while being low in sugar." She usually has them in between her on ice practice session but also keeps a few extra in her bag just in case she needs an emergency snack. “The bars can keep me going all day long!” says Karen.
Training on and off the ice takes up the majority of her time but whenever she gets a small break she loves to create art. You can follow Karen on her journey to the Winter Olympics on Instagram.
